ACT BIG. LIVE SMALL.
A movement rooted in everyday activism with a focus on supporting Asian elephant conservation.
We can do big things while leaving small footprints
Act Big Live Small is a movement rooted in everyday activism.
We encourage individuals to make meaningful change by maximising the positive impact of their actions while minimising their footprint on the world around them.
We are also dedicated to supporting Asian elephant conservation and actively raising crucial funds for Save Elephant Foundation, a registered Thai non-profit organisation dedicated to the protection of Asian elephants. An organisation that lives and breathes the Act Big Live Small ethos.
Asian elephant conservation: why it matters
Today, Act Big Live Small focuses on Asian elephant conservation. Fewer than 50,000 Asian elephants remain in the wild, and they are listed as Endangered on the IUCN Red List. Around one-third, approximately 15,000 elephants, are held in captivity, often in tourism, logging, or labour industries, as well as in some religious temples and institutions, where welfare conditions can be deeply challenging.
The continued capture of wild elephants to support such operations also heavily fragments and threatens surviving wild herds. Elephants are highly social and sentient beings like humans, and as wild animals who have neved been domesticated, the trauma of captivity is even greater.
Asian elephants are a keystone species - their positive impact on surrounding ecosystems is disproportionately large relative to its population. If we cannot build a landscape where humans coexist with Asian elephants, it means we will have failed in even greater challenges; creating the political and structural capability to manage land sustainably.
This is the challenge envisioned in UN Sustainable Development Goal 15 (Life on Land); missing this goal implies that human economic models are fundamentally incompatible with preserving the biosphere.
