Walk for Asian Elephants Week

August 9-15

Want to get more involved?

We are inviting people all over the world to go for a walk during 9–15 August in solidarity with Asian elephants.

No set distances. No required routes. No fundraising expectations. No pressure. Here’s what to do:

  1. Don’t forget to donate if you can

  2. Walk anywhere. Bring family members, friends, or pets (Act Big Live Small LOVES a good, long dog walk)

  3. Print out our “I walked for Asian elephants” sign [Download - coming soon!]

  4. Snap a photo or video of your walk with the sign and share it on social media with #WalkForAsianElephants2026

If you have any questions (we also love ideas!), please drop us a line at actbiglivesmall.org

The inspiration

Why ‘Walk for Asian Elephants’?

Elephants walk hundreds of miles in their lifetimes, often retracing paths share through generations filled with memory, meaning, and community. Walking is accessible, reflective, and unifying, and a powerful gesture of empathy.

This event also honours a symbolic and increbible journey completed in 2020. During the COVID pandemic, tourism collapsed in Thailand as it did just about everywhere. Many businesses and families that own elephants unfortunately required tourism dollars to keep their elephants fed. An adult elephant can eat between 200-300 kilograms every day.

Over 100 elephants in Thailand were forced to march nearly 100 miles to return to their villages when tourism dollars ran dry. These elephants faced an extreme risk of starvation. Save Elephant Foundation pulled together vital support programs for these elephants, their owners, and the communities that depend on them, providing food and other critical supplies on the back of donations from individuals and organisations like Act Big Live Small (see more about our campaign that raised over £2,750 to support these elephants).
